Fish consumption pattern of the beel-dependent community

    • The study revealed that in sampled households, they prefer to consume fish regularly in their diet, however, only 3% of the sampled populace can afford to eat fish daily.

    • It was found the majority of the sampled population (58%) buy fish from the market for their household consumption.

    • 9% of the sampled populace is dependent exclusively on beel for their household consumption.

    • About 89% of the sampled households reported that they consume fish almost 3-6 days in a week.

    • It was found that the consumers commonly choose to consume fishes like Catla, Rohu, Bata, Chital, among the freshwater fishes and SIFs available in the beel.
    • SIF has a significant contribution (67%) to their regular fish diet.
