Water quality parameters of Beledanga Wetland

    • Water quality parameters play a very important role in fisheries and the ecological health of an aquatic ecosystem. Assessment of water quality parameters is essential to know the productivity and ecological health of an aquatic ecosystem.

    • The annual average water temperature of the wetland was 26.68°C. Seasonal study revealed that the water temperature in the wetland ranged from 21.22 to 31.41°C, with the highest being recorded during the pre-monsoon season and the lowest during the post-monsoon season.

    • Seasonal variation of water transparency of the wetland varied from 82.94 to 172.75cm.
    • Seasonal variation of pH of the wetland varied from 7.65-8.12.

    • The DO values ranged between 6.43-7.03mg/l, with the highest being recorded during the post-monsoon season.
    • The specific conductivity of the wetland varied from 321.74-475.16µS/cm, with the highest being recorded during the post-monsoon season.

    • The total alkalinity varied from 163.84-226.5 mg/l with the highest during the monsoon season and the lowest during the pre-monsoon season. 
    • Seasonal variation of nitrate-N was varying from 0.012-0.025 mg/l. The phosphate-P was varying from 0.062- 0.13 mg/l.
