WorldFish Project
A project entitled “Small scale fisheries in wetland for livelihood and nutritional security” was carried out by ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute under ICAR-Worldfish Collaborative Project (W-3). Beledanga wetland located in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal was selected for conducting the research work under this project. Several components including fish production pattern and impact of stocking, pen aquaculture and culture-based fisheries (CBF), impact of climate change on fish production, small indigenous fishes (SIFs), water quality parameters, plankton, benthic community, macrophytes coverage, ecopath mass balanced model, ecosystem services, socioeconomic profile and fish consumption pattern were covered under the project. Several programmes were conducted for capacity building and sensitization of wetland fisheries development technology.

Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP)
The Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) is an initiative of Government of India for the socioeconomic development of the Scheduled Caste (SC) community. ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute implemented SCSP since 2018-19. The SCSP was carried out to improve the livelihood of the SC community through various inland open water fisheries. Several fisheries implements including HDPE pen, fishing boats, fishing nets, fish feeds, fish seeds, ornamental fish culture unit and coracles were distributed for the demonstration of culture-based fisheries (CBF) and pen culture in wetland and reservoir, backyard pond fish culture, ornamental fish culture in different parts of India. Several awareness and training programme have been conducted on inland open water fisheries. Under SCSP various fisheries implements were distributed to the members of the Fishermen Cooperative Society of Beledanga wetland. Apart from this, several training and awareness programmes on inland open water fisheries were carried out for the members of the Fishermen Cooperative Society of Beledanga wetland.
